Preview ‘Red Rain’ From Peter Gabriel’s Theatrical Concert Event
Peter Gabriel has never been an artist that’s spent much time looking backwards, but in 2012 he decided to hit the road and play his 1986 landmark album SO in its entirety, even reforming the original touring band from the era and recreating much of the staging. “This is the first time I’ve gone retro,” he told Rolling Stone that year. “You can never repeat history. You can sort of spiral back to it, but you’re standing at another point in time, even if you’re a observing as fully and as accurately as you can, you’re actually in a different space, time and certainly physical body then you were at that time.”

The tour was a huge success, and cameras were rolling at London’s 02 Arena last October when he brought the show back around Europe for an encore run. “We shot it in 4K because I’m a bit of a tech nerd,” Gabriel told Rolling Stone last year. “It looks fantastic. But they don’t really have all the equipment sorted out. Unfortunately, there’s so much data that it messes up the synchronization. So then you have to go back and synch things up by hand.”
Gabriel’s did manage to synch up all the footage and the resulting film, Peter Gabriel: Back to Front, looks absolutely incredible. It’s coming to select theaters tonight at 7:30 p.m. (Click here to check out local times) and above is a preview of “Red Rain” from the show.
The final leg of the Front to Back tour kicks off April 29th in Frankfurt, Germany and runs through May 25th in Berlin.
