The Killers Cover Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy’ at V Festival
No one can resist the power of “Fancy,” and the Killers are no exception. Headlining the V Festival in Staffordshire, England on Saturday night, the band put their own stamp on Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s contender for Summer Jam of the Decade, complete with some truly astonishing choreography.
“We’ve sort of been working on something and we wanted to show you a little bit of it, if you don’t mind hearing it,” frontman Brandon Flowers told the crowd before hitting the opening chords on his keyboard. Ronnie Vannucci then emerged from behind his drumkit to perform an ethereal interpretive dance.
Flowers made one adjustment in to the lyrics, changing “from L.A. to Toyko” to the slightly less mellifluous “from Las Vegas to Staffordshire.”
The band hit the U.K. after headlining the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco last weekend, where they enlisted Danielle Haim to join them on drums during a warm-up gig. Their next stops bring them to the Glasgow Summer Sessions in Scotland and then Tennent’s Vital in Belfast.
Of course the Killers aren’t the first band to attempt to harness the vital force of “Fancy,” and they surely won’t be the last. Crosby, Stills and Nash took on the hit last month on The Tonight Show, led by Jimmy Fallon doing his Neil Young impression. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, T.I. attested to the song’s strength while defending Iggy Azalea. “‘Fancy’ is a hit record,” he said. “‘Fancy’ would have been a hit record whoever did it. It’s just that she was the first one to think to do it.”
