Goodbye, ‘Pr0n’: Block Unwanted Google Search Results
Google users can now block unwanted websites from online search results.
Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox users, upon returning to Google after visiting a suggested website, can tap into a built-in tool that displays the option to block all future results from that domain address.
Blocked sites will no longer appear in Internet search results. Messages will notify users regarding the presence and quantity of blocked responses in future queries, with options to manage and unblock selections readily available, as well.
Google says it believes these features will provide higher-quality search results and insists that it’s “not currently using the domains people block as a signal in [search] ranking.”
Going forward, though, it’s easy to see how data could be tapped as a crowdsourced solution for weeding out spam, phishing and fraudulent content sites. Rejoice, as the days of porn sites masquerading one letter away from the name of popular family destinations may be numbered.
