AOL Launches New iPad Magazine with Editions App
AOL is diving headfirst into iPad magazine publishing with its new Editions app, which allows readers to personalize their reading experience by enjoying custom daily online feeds.
Billed as “the magazine that reads you,” and designed as a shorter, more self-contained experience than competitors such as Flipboard provide, new installments are delivered to your tablet PC once each day. Taking a similar approach to The Daily, minus original content, the application tracks articles and topics of interest to viewers (e.g. business, entertainment, technology and travel), and scrapes related content from the Web.
Laid out in a traditional magazine format with a cover and list of articles, the publication aims to provide stories from a range of sources, not just AOL owned properties. Users are also given control over which headlines, subjects and specific items of interest appear, including the ability to access local news feeds or scan clips related to individual musicians, politicians or sports teams. Social network integration with Twitter and Facebook, and email connectivity, is also provided for purposes of content sharing.
A free download, users can grab Editions from the iTunes App Store now.
