Watch Interviews With Debbie Harry, Thurston Moore and Others in ‘Blank City’
Few periods in New York history are as romanticized as the late Seventies and early Eighties. Most New Yorkers in that time weren't seeing the Ramones at CBGB or partying with Blondie and Jean Michel Basquiat at the Mudd Clubb or dancing with Bianca Jagger and Andy Warhol at Studio 54. They were just trying to live their lives in an increasingly decrepit and dangerous city. That said, the privileged few who hung with the cool crowd did live through an incredible time. In just a few short years the city produced hip-hop, punk rock, disco as well as tons of brilliant filmmakers and artists. Celine Danhier's new documentary Blank City chronicles this chaotic era, with a particular focus on the movies produced during the time. It contains new interviews with Debbie Harry, Steve Buscemi, Thurston Moore, John Waters, Jim Jarmusch and many others. Check out the trailer above. It's currently playing in New York.
