Missing You Already
I gotta confess: I’ve always had a soft spot for Scotty McClellan. Blessed with none of the intellectual dexterity or unctuous eloquence of his predecessor, Ari Fleischer, Scotty was a terrible liar, forced on a daily basis to prevaricate before journalists who came to take pleasure in punishing him personally for the sins of the Bush administration.
His resignation speech is almost heartbreaking, pure Stockholm Syndrome, with Scotty thanking all the “really good people” he had the pleasure of serving.
And then there was Bush —”the decider” — kindly sticking to the “resignation” cover story: “It’s going to be hard to replace Scott. But nevertheless, he’s made the decision, and I accept it.” A final transparent lie, and then Scotty was gone. Let’s hope he didn’t step in gum on the way out.
