‘SNL’ Picks New Weekend Update Anchor
Cecily Strong is set to join Seth Meyers at the anchor desk on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update. Strong will share the segment with Meyers, and possibly segue into a position as the segment’s sole anchor, The New York Times reports. SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels believes that it might be possible for Meyers, who’s moving on to host Late Night four nights a week, to return to the SNL set for Weekend Update.

But for now, he’s confident in Strong’s abilities. “Cecily, from the first show, was right there,” Michaels said. “She exploded.”
Strong’s addition to Weekend Update comes after a period of transition for the show now in its 39th season. This past season saw departures from series heavyweights including Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis .
Aside from revamping Weekend Update, changes for the upcoming season will include adding six new cast members. Last week Michaels decided on the final new addition to the cast, L.A.-based comedian Brooks Wheelan. NBC is set to make an official announcement today on the new hires.
