The Cast of ‘Spider-Man’ Performs Bono and the Edge’s ‘Rise Above’ on Letterman
The cast of the endlessly troubled musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark went on Late Night With David Letterman last night to perform “Rise Above,” one of the many songs that Bono and The Edge wrote for the play. The musical – which has been in previews since November 28th – is still slated to open on March 15th, but it’s extremely likely that it will be delayed further in the wake of overwhelmingly negative reviews.
Bono and the Edge are reportedly writing new songs for the play, and U2’s longtime producer Steve Lillywhite has been drafted to work on the project as well. “I am in the crucible right now,” Spider-Man‘s director Julie Taylor said earlier this month. “It is my trial by fire. It’s my company’s trial by fire. We have survived because our theme song is ‘Rise Above.’” After Letterman shook hands with the cast, he uttered two key words to them: “Good luck.”
