Gwen Stefani’s Supersonic Style Evolution
Until Lady Gaga emerged, Gwen Stefani was likely the most protean pop star on Earth, reconfiguring her image constantly to suit whatever muse she was chasing that year. In her 26-year career, she’s braved a few rough patches – but those are apt to afflict anyone at the forefront of experimental fashion. Overall, she’s exhibited sterling style sensibilities, with a few specifically iconic looks to her name. Bindis? Houndstooth? Blazing red lips and alabaster skin? Pink hair? All trends other stars have dabbled in, but Stefani defines them.
In recent years, Stefani’s growing command of fashion compelled her to start her own popular clothng line, L.A.M.B., as well as its fantasy-oriented offshoot, Harajuku Lovers. Both serve as visual cornerstones to Stefani’s ever-expanding creative universe; with that in mind, No Doubt’s long-awaited reunion will provide an interesting opportunity for her to fuse her personal brand(s) with her band’s equally powerful pop legacy. On September 11th, we’ll get a preview of how she’s balancing life and its latest inspirations when she presents L.A.M.B.’s Spring 2012 collection at The Box at Lincoln Center.
In anticipation of the next phase in her evolution, we commemorate some of her most memorable so far.
