‘Veep’ Returns with Strong Season Two Premiere
“All the ladies in the house say, ‘Freee!’ All the men in the housesay, ‘Duuumb!'” With inspirational campaign-rally slogans like this, no wonder the Vice President is in trouble. Julia Louis Dreyfus manages to get even nastier and funnier in the excellent second season of Veep. As Vice President Selina Mayer, she keeps scheming for more clout in the White House, or at least a little respect from the President. But as she puts it, she’s in “a national ass-kicking contest with no legs and a massive ass.”
Julia Louis-Dreyfus Takes Charge on ‘Veep‘
She’s surrounded by political sharks as cynical as she is, who walk around Capitol Hill saying things like, “I’m running out of nice juice to spray at these shit-munchers.” Nobody seems to have any life outside the White House. As Anna Chlumsky’s Amy says, “I hope I don’t have a cat, because believe me, that poor fucker’s dead.” Armando Iannucci has expanded an already-packed cast with prize cranks like Kevin Dunn, Dan Bakkedahl and Gary Cole. Julia Louis Dreyfus could carry Veep by herself if she had to – but she’s just the spite cherry on top of this bile sundae.
