Alicia Keys to Appear as ‘Mentor’ on ‘America’s Next Top Model’
If you were to guess where Alicia Keys might make her next non-musical cameo, America’s Next Top Model would probably not be at the top of the list – yet that’s exactly where the soulful singer has found her latest niche, according to TV Guide. For its 19th season, the well-worn show is experimenting with its format by inviting a wide range of guests to teach the constestants unconventional style and media lessons. Comedic actor/director/icon Tyler Perry will also visit the show as an acting coach in an upcoming episode. The winner of that challenge will earn a part in one of Perry’s upcoming projects. As for Keys, it’s unclear exactly what wisdom she’ll be offering contestants. Though she’s been a elegant presence on fashion magazines covers and front rows over the years, she’s never been flagrantly conspicuous (even the jewelry line she helmed a few years back was relatively low-key), so it’s likely her mentorship will be based more in substance than style.
There’s the very likely possibility Keys will be the unlucky one who pilots the would-be models through this season’s music video challenge; if so, godspeed to her, as Top Model tradition proves that this usually ends badly. Have the musical sins of Naomi Campbell (and Tyra Banks herself) taught us nothing? Still, sometimes the grimmest episodes make for the most entertaining, so the morbidly curious should tune in. Season 19 of America’s Next Top Model kicks off August 24th.
