‘This Day in Bob Dylan’ App Released
Software maker This Day in Music Apps has released a new downloadable application dedicated to Bob Dylan for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Selling for $2.99, This Day in Bob Dylan delves into the artist’s biography, catalogue and more, providing fans with multimedia assets and historical details on-demand.
Equal parts calendar and mobile reference volume, users can call up Dylan factoids for each day of the year; they run the gamut from recording dates to career highlights, live event details and assorted minutiae. A song guide offers detailed commentary on all tunes from the artist’s first 12 studio albums, and an interactive trivia game scores players on familiarity with the performer. Detailed information on recording dates, industry awards and concert set lists can be accessed alongside a free Dylan ringtone and wallpaper, too.
From the same publisher that produced high-tech tributes to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, the app’s dozens of Dylan photos, quiz questions and assorted informational tidbits may amuse dedicated enthusiasts. However, casual admirers or fair-weather fans may be nonplussed by the program’s singular focus and seemingly hit-or-miss grab bag of insights, e.g. notes on the artist’s obsession with Hollywood actor James Dean. For Dylan fans on the go, though, it offers quick access to a behind-the-scenes look at the artist’s catalogue, and plenty of factual openers readymade for chatting up fellow folkies.
