‘Game of Thrones’ Reimagined as Classic ’70s Sitcom
The dragons are awesome and the Red Wedding may have been one of TV’s monumental game changers, but more than mythical beasts and egregious betrayals, Game of Thrones has always been missing one thing: a good ol’ fashioned laugh track.
Filmmaker Garrison Dean has delivered just that, reimagining the hit HBO show as a classic 70s sitcom for io9. The tweaked title sequence features faded film, plucky piano theme music and goofy narration that declares, “Once a generation, in the long ago magical land of Westeros, the royal families would all come together. They would compete in a joyous celebration to determine their new king. They called this –” cue The Game of Thrones title card, done up in a brilliant, bulbous mustard yellow font reminiscent of Three’s Company.

As the jaunty theme music continues, the title sequence introduces the key members of the families Stark, Tyrell and Lannister, plus all your favorite supporting characters – like Emilia Clarke “as The Dragon Queen” and Peter Dinklage “as The Imp” – each getting their own fitting freeze-frame credit. Dean even cuts to the opening moments of his faux episode, “Winter’s Coming,” in which Jaime Lannister walks in on a couple having sex, sending the “audience” into hysterics. All that’s missing is a sad trombone sound effect.
