Ryan Adams Offers ‘Something Good’ From Upcoming New Album
It’s taken Ryan Adams three years to announce a follow-up to his last album, Ashes and Fire, which would not be a long time for most artists, but for Adams – who put out a record a year for most of the 2000s and three (!) in 2005 alone – it’s long enough to warrant a self-titled record. Ryan Adams, the record, will come out September 9th, and if “Gimme Something Good” – the lead single, streaming on Spotify – is any indication, the album will contain more of the blues-tinged, post–college rock that earned him fans in the first place.

Outside of working on the new record, Adams has been popping up in some unusual places over the past year. Fall Out Boy reported last July that Adams was directing the recording sessions for a handful of songs. “I used to, like, listen to his stuff growing up,” that group’s bassist, Pete Wentz, told Rolling Stone at the time. An energetic track from those sessions, “Love Sex Death,” got its premiere on RollingStone.com.
In August, Adams was the target of Fox News talking head Sean Hannity, who called the liberal Adams a “gutless coward” after quarreling on Twitter. And most recently, he helped Jenny Lewis record her forthcoming LP The Voyager. The singer-songwriter credited Adams as “being the person to get me over the fear of finishing something I’d been working on for so long.”
Now that Adams is back to working on his own music, he recently released a 7-inch of “Gimme Something Good.” It eventually became the Number One seller in Amazon’s music store; the first time a physical single ever claimed the top spot.
