“This should be one of our more memorable New Year’s Eves,” Rockin’ Eve executive producer Barry Adelman told Billboard. “With Miley Cyrus at 11:40 p.m. and Billy Joel at 12:05 a.m., it should be a great, great night.”
Cyrus, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Blondie and Icona Pop are set to appear live from New York, and Capital Cities, Florida Georgia Line, Robin Thicke and more will perform in L.A. The show begins at 8 p.m. with a two-hour special, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Presents the 30 Greatest Women in Music.
Launched by Dick Clark in 1972, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve pulled in 22.2 million total viewers last year, its highest ratings in 11 years. It was the first telecast following Clark’s death in April 2012, at age 82.
After announcing he’d play Brooklyn on New Year’s Eve, Joel revealed plans for a historic, open-ended residency at Madison Square Garden. In October, the singer played a surprise warm-up show at a small theater in his Long Island hometown, his first headlining set in years.
