Cameron Crowe’s ‘Roadies’ Pilot Picked Up by Showtime
Showtime has picked up a one-hour pilot for Roadies, a new comedy written and directed by Cameron Crowe that will follow the day-to-day life of the road crew for a successful touring rock band. The network describes the show as an examination of the “reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives” of the people who work diligently behind the scenes.

The director, who fictionalized his experiences as a reporter for Rolling Stone in the 2000 movie Almost Famous and who captured the Seattle grunge scene in the 1992 movie Singles, will executive produce the pilot, along with Star Wars Episode VII director J.J. Abrams and My So-Called Life creator Winnie Holzman.
“I love that we’re finally doing Roadies,” Crowe said in a statement. “J.J. and I have been talking about it for some time. We’re fans of crews, those workers up on the rigging towers or walking feverishly with eight phones on their belt. Those quietly devoted people live huge lives; they’re often the real keepers of the flame. So happy to also be telling these stories with Showtime, and also with one of my very favorite writer-producers ever, Winnie Holzman. Let’s get this show on the road!”
“Roadies is Cameron Crowe at his most musically passionate, colorful character best,” Abrams said. “We had been talking about the series for so long, but when he actually handed me the script, it was funnier and sweeter and wilder than I had ever imagined.”
Showtime did not reveal a timetable for the show’s production or possible premiere.
