Jay Z Hits Back at Drake for ‘Fondue’ Dig
As far as diss tracks go, “Takeover” this is not (we’re not even on the same planet as “Ether”), but Jay Z took a supposed jab at Drake on DJ Khaled‘s new track, “They Don’t Love You No More,” which also features Rick Ross, Meek Mill and French Montana.
10 Plausible Reasons Drake Brought a Lint Roller to an NBA Game
After serving up a pointed, timely take down of the NCAA, Jay goes in on the naysayers declaring, “Haters wanna ball let me tighten up my drawstring / Wrong sport boy, you know you’re soft as a lacrosse team.” You can listen to the track and Jay’s third-degree burn below.
Indeed it looks like we’ve got a veritable gentleman’s war of words on our hands, all of it over two rival sporting squadrons. Jay Z’s line is ostensibly a response to a dig Drake made earlier this month during an NBA playoff game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Toronto Raptors. “This is the people’s team out here tonight, you know what I mean, Toronto Raptors,” Drake said while being interviewed by TSN commentators Matt Davlin and Jack Armstrong. “Jay Z’s somewhere eating a fondue plate.” Jay, of course, once owned a stake in the Nets before selling it to launch Roc Nation Sports, while the Raptors recently named Drake their “Global Ambassador.”
Hoop dreams, however, are far from the first bourgeois bone Drake has picked with Jay Z. In his recent interview with Rolling Stone Drake said, “It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references! I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.” Jay responded in kind to the comment on a remix of Jay Electronica’s “We Made It,” rapping, “Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk / Silly me rappin’ about shit that I really bought/ while these rappers rap about guns they ain’t shot/and a bunch of other silly shit that they ain’t got.”
