Hear Soundgarden’s Unreleased Early Jam ‘Twin Tower’
In December 1988, a month and a half after the SST release of debut album Ultramega OK, Soundgarden returned to work. Recording at Seattle’s London Bridge studio, the band began the sessions that would eventually produce Louder Than Love, a record composed almost entirely by frontman Chris Cornell.
Below, hear “Twin Tower,” a dissonant instrumental written by drummer Matt Cameron and recorded that December but left off the final record. Come November 24th, the track will be released on Soundgarden‘s three-disc Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Paths, a box set compiling 50 tracks of rare and unheard tunes from the band’s 30 years. “Twin Tower,” for instance, leads off a disc of “oddities” that includes tunes with names like “Jerry Garcia’s Finger” and “Karaoke,” as well as a Moby remix of “Dusty,” a 1996 album track.
The other two CDs are organized into originals (“Sub Pop Rock City,” “Kyle Petty, Son of Richard”) and covers (Sly and the Family Stones’ “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again),” the Beatles’ “Come Together,” Cheech & Chong’s “Earache My Eye”). The whole package can be pre-ordered here.
