See Christina Aguilera Sing Rihanna, Adele on ‘Ellen’
Christina Aguilera visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show for a friendly round of “Heads Up.” In the game, Aguilera has 60 seconds to impersonate a variety of female singers, which DeGeneres then has to guess. It’s not the most difficult of games, but it provided Aguilera an opportunity to give booming, albeit brief, renditions of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.”
Aguilera has showcased her impersonation abilities in the past, most notably during a Tonight Show stop in February 2015. However, toward the end of the game, Aguilera stopped singing other artists’ tracks and simply just started spouting song titles, which is allowable under the loose structure of Heads Up but not all that fun or impressive when the point of the competition is to see Aguilera use her remarkable vocals to copycat other artists. (Ariana Grande has similarly shown an uncanny ability to replicate other famous singers’ voices, including Aguilera.)
For Lady Gaga, Aguilera simply said “‘Born This Way’… eggs,” while Adele received a simple whisper, “Hello.” Aguilera ultimately lost the game with 10 seconds left when she realized that she couldn’t sing, or even name, a single Barbra Streisand track. Perhaps DeGeneres should have asked her to sing Britney Spears instead.
