Morrissey Premieres Depressing ‘Kick the Bride Down the Aisle’ Live
Morrissey gave the dark track “Kick the Bride Down the Aisle” its live debut at a recent Boston concert. The song’s lyrics are a sarcastically misogynistic warning someone not to marry a Dickensian battle axe, with typically Morrissey-ish verses like, “Kick the bride down the aisle in a mudslide of gloom/ She’ll order you to tidy your room.” Musically, the tune plays out more like a funereal dirge than a wedding march, thanks to morose church organ and gently strummed acoustic guitar. The track, the live version of which is streaming below and viewable on YouTube, will appear on the former Smiths frontman’s upcoming album World Peace Is None of Your Business, due out July 15th.

Morrissey recorded the tune along with the other 11 tracks on World Peace Is None of Your Business – his first album since 2009’s Years of Refusal – in France this past February with producer Joe Chiccarelli. The singer had said the reason it took him so long to make a new album was because he was waiting for the right record contract. “I’m independent enough without selling CDs out of the back of a van,” he told The Village Voice in 2012.
Beyond making a new album, Morrissey has also begun work on his debut novel. “In 2013, I published my Autobiography and it has been more successful than any record I have ever released, so, yes, I am midway through my novel,” he wrote in January. “I have my hopes.”
