Han Solo’s ‘Force Awakens’ Leather Jacket Up for Auction
The leather jacket Harrison Ford‘s Han Solo wore in the blockbuster Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit the auction block, with all proceeds from the unique item benefitting charity. The jacket, which is currently being auctioned off by If Only, also comes autographed by Ford. The current bid on the piece of Force Awakens memorabilia is $17,000. The auction is set to conclude on April 11th.
Ford himself donated the custom-made, one-of-a-kind jacket, with all profits from the auction benefitting the NYU Langone Medical Center’s FACES (Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures) department; the actor recently attended an event hosted by FACES, where Ford talked about his own daughter’s struggles with epilepsy and seizures.
“When you have a loved one who suffers from this disease, it can be devastating,” Ford told Today. “You know how it affects their lives, their future, their opportunities and you want desperately to find mitigation. You want to find a way that they can live a comfortable and effective life.”
The leather jacket played a small role in the much-anticipated on-screen reunion of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo and Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia in The Force Awakens: Upon seeing each other within the context of the story for the first in years – and over three decades for moviegoers – Leia points to Solo’s jacket and quips, “Same jacket.” Solo replies, “No, new jacket.”
Han Solo isn’t the only classic character Ford will revive on film: The actor and director Steven Spielberg recently announced plans to release a fifth installment in their Indiana Jones series in 2019.
