Tracy Morgan Gives Neal Brennan Optimistic Health Update
Comedian Neal Brennan offered an optimistic health update on friend Tracy Morgan during Tuesday night’s episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers. Morgan was hospitalized with broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg back in June, after his limousine was hit by a Walmart truck – but Brennan says he spoke to the comic on Monday, and he promises that Morgan’s mind (and comic timing) is still razor-sharp.
“From what I can tell, he’s great,” said Brennan, who was there promoting his upcoming Sundance pop-culture series The Approval Matrix. “Physically, I don’t know. He said he’s going to rehab every day. But mentally – we spoke on the phone, and he seemed all there because we were talking, and he was like, ‘Neal, the outpouring of love was unbelievable. The people that reached out to me: Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J…the president.’ And the fact that Tracy put LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes above the president lets me know that Tracy is back!”
Brennan’s upbeat report is welcome news. Last month, Morgan filed a lawsuit against Walmart over the crash, which killed his friend James McNair and injured several others. “Walmart was careless and negligent in the ownership and operation of its motor vehicle, which caused Mr. Morgan to suffer severe personal injuries,” reads the complaint, which was filed with the U.S. District Court in New Jersey. “As a direct and proximate result of said collision, Mr. Morgan was caused to sustain severe painful bodily injuries, including but not limited to multiple fractures which required multiple surgeries, extensive medical treatment and will require significant physical rehabilitation.”
The deadly June 7th accident happened when a Walmart truck collided with a limo transporting Morgan on the New Jersey Turnpike. A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board found that the Walmart driver, Kevin Roper, had nearly reached his drive time limit at the time of the accident. Morgan’s suit claims that Roper was fatigued; it states, “Walmart knew or should have known” that he had been “awake for more than 24 consecutive hours” before the crash.
Meanwhile, as Reuters reported in July, Morgan has been recovering from his injuries at home, following a stint in a rehabilitation center.
