Watch the Seasons Change in Young the Giant’s ‘Mind Over Matter’ Video
For Young the Giant, “Mind Over Matter was a little mantra of trying to get past these certain obstacles that one makes three-dimensional, but which are actually a figment of our own imagination,” the band’s frontman Sameer Gadhia told Rolling Stone earlier this year. The title track from the band’s latest LP is a soaring anthem that finds the SoCal quintet at their Coldplay-iest best, and its new video premiering here — directed by Tim Nackashi (Death Cab for Cutie, TV on the Radio, OK Go) — doesn’t distract from the song’s simple beauty.
The band’s ethos while making the album was similarly simple and direct: “Sometimes you can think about higher things and the social implications of what you’re doing, but at the end of the day, just being and existing as a group together, getting in a room and jamming for hours: I think that’s really what we are,” he added.
The band is on the road through the fall supporting their second album, but you can get a good look at them live right here on RS, too: check out three songs we shot exclusively at a show at The Cosmpolitan of Las Vegas in April.
