Jeff Tweedy Stepping Out on His Own With Solo Album, Tour
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has announced dates for a solo tour along with the news that he’ll soon be releasing his debut solo album, Pitchfork reports.
Where Did Wilco’s ‘Yankee Hotel Foxtrot’ Rank Among the 100 Best Albums of the 2000s?
The 16-date tour kicks off on June 5th at Detroit’s Masonic Temple and winds its way to Rhode Island for a closing stop at the sold-out Newport Folk Festival on July 27th. For his solo incarnation, Tweedy will be accompanied by a backing band that features guitarist Jim Elkington, bassist Darin Gray, keyboardist Liam Cunningham, and Tweedy’s son Spencer on drums.
Further details about the new album, including its release date, have not yet been announced, but the band will be playing songs from the record on the tour. Tweedy will also pull out some solo acoustic versions of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo songs.
Tweedy, who spent last summer touring with Wilco, Bob Dylan and My Morning Jacket for the Americanarama Festival of Music, recently appeared in the season finale of Parks and Recreation as the leader of a reunited band called Land Ho!, alongside Yo La Tengo and the Decemberists and Ginuwine.
