Beyonce and Jay Z’s ‘On the Run’ Concert Film to Air on HBO
UPDATE: HBO announced that the show will premiere on Saturday, Sept. 20th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Beyoncé and Jay Z‘s ongoing love affair with HBO, which has been running clips of Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter World Tour after True Blood and previously broadcast the popular Bey doc Life Is but a Dream and Jay Z film Picasso Baby, will continue this year when it airs a concert special featuring the couple’s current On the Run tour. The film, which will be taped on Beyoncé and Jay Z’s two-night residency at Paris’ Stade de France in the fall, will feature more than 40 songs and will debut in September.
The On the Run tour — the first time the couple has ever toured together — kicked off in Miami in late June and featured the Carters splitting a two-and-a-half-hour set and performing 42 songs. Rolling Stone reported that the couple began the concert with three duets: “’03 Bonnie & Clyde,” “Upgrade U” and a mash-up of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” and Jay Z’s “Show Me What You Got.” The show then found them trading off songs and, in cases where Jay Z had recorded with another singer – such as his recent Justin Timberlake collaboration “Holy Grail” – Beyoncé filled in.
Previously, the couple had led up to the tour with a star-studded, four-minute trailer, titled Run, which featured the likes of Sean Penn, Jake Gyllenhaal, Rashida Jones and Don Cheadle. While HBO’s On the Run won’t be the action-packed Hollywood movie the pair dreamt up for the promo, there will likely be plenty of Bonnie and Clyde moments.
