Slipknot App Lets Fans ‘Wear the Mask’
Metal rockers and all-around masters of the grotesque Slipknot have just debuted an app built for the iOS and Android platforms entitled “Slipknot: Wear the Mask.” The app was released today to coincide with the band’s new best-of compilation, Antennas to Hell.
“Wear the Mask,” which blends gaming, social media, and photography, invites users to design their own Slipknot masks and find out what type of”maggot” (or Slipknot fan) they are. While most other band apps consist of simple games that lead into tour schedules and ticket offers, this one claims to let fans “completely immerse themselves in the culture of Slipknot.”
Says Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan, “Welcome to what we are. Welcome to what you are, and what we together have always been. Slipknot is not a band. We are a culture and you are our blood. We play for blood. Enjoy your new face. It has always been there with you. Strap it on and let’s infect the entire world together as one.” Or, at least, everyone with a smartphone.
