‘Walking Dead’ Trailer Teases What Comes After the Prison
AMC has offered up a glimpse of what the next half-season of The Walking Dead has in store when it returns on February 9th. At 30 seconds, though, it goes by faster than one of Daryl Dixon’s arrows.
Nine ‘Walking Dead’ Villains We’re Dying to See
In December’s midseason finale, the villainous Governor massacred the inhabitants of the prison where Rick Grimes, the character played by Andrew Lincoln, and his followers were living. Without spoiling too much, it left off in a way that Grimes and his son were no longer with the group and would have to fend for themselves.
Set against the foreboding soundtrack of a rough voice singing Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s “Bad Moon Rising” in what feels like slow motion, the trailer shows smoke billowing from the penitentiary. A camera focuses on Glenn Rhee, played by actor Steven Yeun, bloody and confused. In another quick shot, zombies clutter the field and move toward the prison.
The voice of Rick Grimes plays in the background, and he still sounds determined. “I know we’ll never get things back to the way they used to be,” he says. “It’s not gonna be easy.” Just as soon as he says “easy,” the screen flashes images of characters like Dixon, Beth Greene, Michonne and more, all fighting for their survival. Then Grimes finishes his thought: “But we’re not too far gone. We’re survivors.”
A different kind of Walking Dead survivor surfaced since the midseason finale aired: Frank Darabont, the ousted creator of the TV show. The producer, who has since launched the show Mob City, filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against AMC, seeking tens of millions of dollars in lost profits. While the show’s ratings didn’t make an impact on Nielsen’s year-end ratings report, it did claim the Number Two spot on its social-media chatter chart. In a far less profitable arena, it also ranked Number Three on TorrentFreak’s list of the most pirated TV shows last year.
