Shazam App Brings Online Music Sharing to Facebook
Shazam, a mobile app that identifies unknown songs by listening to a few seconds of audio, has added new social media features to its iPhone, iPad and Android apps for use with Facebook.
Tag a song, and Shazam Friends’ features now let you share running real-time feeds of the music you’re listening to via your Facebook profile. Users can also see what songs Facebook friends have been listening to, helping grow awareness for popular artists and aid in the new music discovery process.
“Our new feature not only allows Shazamers to see what their friends on Facebook are tagging, but they can also listen to the track and go on to purchase it,” said Shazam CEO Andrew Fisher. “Shazam Friends is an exciting new feature for our community of Shazamers that will make it easier than ever before to learn about new music and share those moments.”
Roughly 3 million songs are tagged each day on Shazam, according to the company, which claims 30 million users and says it drives 250,000-300,000 new song purchases each day. With sales of digital music stagnating as of 2010, technology experts and record industry insiders are increasingly looking to social music sharing to drive online music’s growth.
