Politkovskaya Murderers Still At Large
The last story written by murdered Russian investigative reporter Anna Politkovskaya has now been published. It’s the account of a Chechen man named Beslan Gadayev who says he was extradited from Ukraine to his homeland and tortured, in order to get him to confess to an attack on Russian-sponsored Chechen police. “They attached wires to my little fingers,” Gadayev told Politkovskaya. “Seconds later they started to give me electric shocks.” Sound familiar?
Prosecutors, meanwhile, say that they are making progress in the investigation into Politkovskaya’s death. They refused to comment on reports that they have in custody a man who has confessed to the shooting. And Ramzan Kadyrov, the strongman President of Chechnya backed by Moscow, has denied any involvement, saying, “I don’t kill women and never have.”
