Music Video Games Stage Surprise Comeback
Despite continuing rumors of music video games’ demise, sales results continue to speak otherwise, with popular dancing title Just Dance 2 having now sold more than five million copies according to publisher UbiSoft.
One of only eight games to do so on the Nintendo Wii system, its success mirrors that of fellow karaoke and rump-shaking simulator Michael Jackson: The Experience, which recently shifted over three million units.
Game designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez)’s new interactive musical laser light show Child of Eden has also recently confirmed that it would include support for 3D TVs and motion controls via PlayStation Move. Arriving on the PlayStation 3 on September 27, the virtual ode to synesthesia hopes to achieve similarly chart-topping results.
While genre-leading series such as Guitar Hero have been placed on temporary hiatus, UbiSoft claims that rival rhythm-based outings with new premises can succeed where titles like this and Rock Band haven’t.
“There’s a good chance this dance segment can be strong for four or five years like Guitar Hero,” CEO Yves Guillemot told investors back in February.
