Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert on the 9/11 Anniversary
September 13 “marks another milestone for us as a nation,” said Jon Stewart on last night’s Daily Show. He aired a clip from just two days after the terrorist attacks, for which Jerry Falwell blamed “the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians.” That’s why tonight’s special Daily Show will be about “remembering the day we forgot the lessons of the day we swore we would always remember.” Watch Stewart’s trailer for the event below.
Stephen Colbert also tackled the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. He chose to focus on “all the 9/11 commemorative stuff you can buy” – after all, he said, “these terrorists attacked us because they hated our way of life, and what typifies our way of life more than selling each other useless crap made in China?” Hitting terrorists with this “economic ju jitsu” – buying commemorative wine, dog collars and chess sets – is Colbert’s preferred way of never forgetting.
