At the Movies with Peter Travers: ‘Prince of Persia,’ ‘Sex and the City’
Two potential blockbusters are arriving in theaters this Memorial Day weekend and Rolling Stone‘s Peter Travers knows which one you should see — and which one to avoid. Up first is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a rogue Prince who battles the evil Nizam, played by Ben Kingsley. Even though the film is based on a video game, a genre that doesn’t necessarily make for great movies, Travers says Persia works as a throwback to old Hollywood epics films like The Thief of Baghdad.
And then there’s Sex in the City 2 , the second feature based on the fashionable HBO series. This time around, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and the girls head to Abu Dhabi where the four stars deliver “one awful pun after another,” Travers says. The movie is destined to rake in the cash this weekend, bad review or not, but Travers warns, Sex and the City 2 is “two and a half hours of torture for any guy alive.”
