Two Door Cinema Club Perform ‘What You Know’ and Discuss Trials of Touring
When Two Door Cinema Club first formed in Ireland in 2007, their music made such an immediate impact that the band members decided to forego their university careers in favor of making a go of it. If the song “What You Know” sounds familiar, it’s possible that you recognize it from the television spots for this year’s Glastonbury festival, where the band then played it live, back in June. Even in this unique, stripped-down version that they performed exclusively for Rolling Stone at Lollapalooza, the message is loud and clear. “I can tell just what you want,” sings frontman Alex Trimble. “You don’t want to be alone.” No wonder the song has connected with so many people.
In their backstage interview with Rolling Stone, Two Door Cinema Club discuss how they have been in constant motion since they dropped their debut album (‘Tourist History’) in the spring of 2010. But, they admit, playing music every night on tour can make writing and recording new music difficult. “And we’ve been touring solidly close to three years now,” explains bassist Kevin Baird. “After this tour in September, that’s when we’re completely focused on this next record.”
