Gitmo Ruling a Gift to Rove?
According to the administration’s twisted interpretation of yesterday’s events, all they need now is “congressional authorization” of Gitmo’s kangaroo courts.
Cue the introduction of the “Detainees are Evil Mofos, So Let’s Operate with Vengeance to Ensure Americans can Live Quietly Again, Enemy Detention Authorization Act of 2006″ — or some equally transparent and venal legislation designed to wrongfoot politicians who support the rule of law and make them look like a total pussies on terror.
Hell, the ink on the Supremes’ decision isn’t even dry, and the National Review is already cheerleading the passage of DEMSLOVEALQAEDA Act of 2006:
There is no issue more important than national security, and with the 2006 elections beckoning it is essential that Republicans move quickly on legislation. Our elected representatives need to be on record, now, about what rights they would give to Qaeda terrorists in wartime.
