Kanye West to Present Clothing Line in Paris Again, Finds Distribution for Shoes
Not letting last season’s searing critical barbs deter his agenda, Kanye West is going full speed ahead with his burgeoning fashion house, which will present its second-ever showing at Paris Fashion Week on March 7th. Details surrounding the upcoming season are (probably intentionally) vague; it’s safe to presume a certain level of restructuring has taken place behind the scenes, as West hinted that it might in light of last season’s failings.
In the meantime, West seems to be finding a moderate degree of success in designing – and selling – shoes. Upscale French retailer Colette, a ‘Ye favorite, tweeted they are stocking styles from his Spring 2012 collection, a collaboration with esteemed Italian shoe label Giuseppe Zanotti. A unique, pearl-encrusted hybrid of wooly crocheted socks and high-caliber stripper shoes, the West/Zannoti mashup is destined to be an acquired taste, especially given how it’s meant to be worn in warm weather. Then again, West made it clear through his fur and leather-laden showing last October that he has little regard for adhering the rules of seasonal dress.
Fashion media reactions to Colette’s espousal of West’s line continue to be of mild amusement, but then again, even Lindsay Lohan managed to get her disastrous one-season stint with Emanuel Ungaro into a few stores.
On a happier note, West designed shoes for Dion Lee’s London Fashion Week Fall 2012 debut and they were quite nice.
