Buddy Holly Gets Reborn in Two New Web Applications
In honor of the 75th birthday of rock and roll icon Buddy Holly, happening September 7th, two new Web applications look to bring his spirit back to life right on your desktop.
Allowing you to superimpose Buddy Holly’s signature black framed glasses over your own photos, whether uploaded or captured on webcam, BuddyHolly.me also lets you add custom catchphrases before sharing on social networks.
Companion app BuddyRul.es simply superimposes a photo of Buddy singing into the mic, guitar in hand, on top of any web page which is added to the end of https://buddyrul.es/ (try https://buddyrul.es/www.rollingstone.com for sample results).
While admittedly pointless, and a shameless ploy to promote the recent “Rave On Buddy Holly” tribute album from Fantasy Records, let’s be frank. Though of passing interest, both prove a mildly entertaining way to remind oneself just how far modern music (and for that matter proper, full-fledged web apps) have come.
