Hot off the Press: Lady Gaga’s Paris Fashion Week Plans, Gwen Stefani’s Clothing Line for Kids and More
• Lady Gaga will premiere another film at Thierry Mugler’s upcoming Paris Fashion Week show, sources reveal. Last season, she actually appeared on the catwalk as the collection’s most famous model. Tomorrow’s show, which Gaga stylist and friend Nicola Formichetti is creative directing, will reveal yet another level of her influence over the line. Just last week, her alternative take on the “You & I” video was released via a screening at Formichetti’s pop-up boutique, Nicola’s. Cinematic heavyweights Inex & Vinoodh will once again be involved.
• Rolling Stone loved Gwen Stefani‘s latest collection for L.A.M.B., and now we get a taste of her upcoming Target children’s collection, an off-shoot of her popular diffusion line, Harajuku Lovers, set to launch in mid-November. So far, it looks like overtly kitschy and girly looks (baby tutus and all) will be prominent, as well as the usual anime-happy Japanese motifs now affiliated with all things Stefani.
• Lindsay Lohan’s relationship with fashion has been fracturous at best. While she hit a peak at as a Miu Miu muse in 2006, her style cachet suffered as her career and reputation hit the skids. Her leggings brand, 6126, never quite took off, and her one-season gig as Emanuel Ungaro’s creative director was universally regarded as a spectacular failure. Her new role seems safer: as designer Phillipp Plein’s new muse, she simply has to look pretty for the lens. Judging by her Milan Fashion Week cameo and subsequent photo shoot, all seems promising so far.
• In a very bizarre twist of news, rock’s favorite young designer, Alexander Wang, is now being considered as a frontrunner for the much sought-after creative director vacancy at Christian Dior. After John Galliano was fired in March, following allegations (and eventual indictment) for his racist rants, the spot has been fashion’s most contested employment opportunity of the decade. Though Marc Jacobs was nearly guaranteed to be next in line for the position, it appears Wang is now being strongly considered as an option. As Wang is a very young designer whose long-term legacy has yet to be determined, reaction to the news has thus far been extremely mixed.
• It’s good to know that while trends shift, some classics never die: the infamous ruby slippers used in 1939’s classic The Wizard of Oz will command an extraordinary auction price of $2 million or more in December, when current owner, Joe Maddalena, auctions them off in Los Angeles in a Hollywood memorabilia sale. One of four pairs ever created, they are the only ones left available: one pair is privately owned, a second pair is at the Smithsonian and a third pair was sadly stolen. Of the iconic footwear, Maddalena told Reuters: “This is the most important film prop in the world. There is nothing more famous. They are one of the greatest pieces of pop culture in existence.”
