Vudu Brings Online Streaming Movies to Web Browsers
Online streaming movies continue to grow in popularity, with Vudu’s video-on-demand TV and film service the latest to make the jump from connected TVs and home theater devices to PC Web browsers.
Similar to Netflix, Hulu and now Facebook’s new on-demand digital movie watching services, Vudu’s existing slate of shows and flicks will be available direct from Windows, Mac and Linux computers. For the same price as on HDTV, 3DTV, PlayStation 3 or Internet-enabled Blu-ray player, viewers can access the company’s catalog, albeit only in standard definition. Streaming HD and 3-D versions, a major selling point for Vudu on other platforms, will not be available.
Eventual plans to move beyond Web browsers such as Chrome and Firefox are in the making, though, with Vudu aiming to add support for any Internet-connected device going forward, including, presumably, tablet PCs.
