More of Ron Burgundy’s Peyton Manning Interview to Run on ESPN
Even though Ron Burgundy wasn’t able to “class up” ESPN’s SportsCenter yesterday, the network plans on broadcasting more footage of the “interview” it shot of Will Ferrell‘s character grilling Denver Bronco Peyton Manning for ESPN the Magazine. The segment will air prior to the December 18th release of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

The channel had previously used the chat – in which Burgundy praises Manning for all of the success he’s achieved “without a mustache” – to tease Ferrell’s in-character SportsCenter appearance, which was also supposed to feature an appearance by actor David Koechner portraying his Anchorman character, Champ Kind. But beyond airing this footage, the network has no plans to reschedule Burgundy’s SportsCenter spot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In related Burgundy news, the anchorman is currently on the cover of Rolling Stone. “Anyone in comedy who says they knew something was gonna work is full of shit,” Ferrell said of Anchorman’s success. “I want to keep making things where, potentially, I do turn off part of the audience. Because the percentage that’s going, ‘I can’t believe this is happening, and I love it’ – that’s what I gravitate toward.”
Outside of interviewing quarterbacks, posing for magazine covers and entertaining Kanye West and Kim Kardashian on the set of Anchorman 2, the Burgundy character has been staying busy. Lately, he has appeared on local newscasts, stopped by Conan to pay tribute to beleaguered Toronto mayor Rob Ford with a rendition of Loverboy’s “Everybody’s Working for the Weekend,” and showing up at Emerson College in Boston, where he took part in the naming ceremony for the newly christened Ron Burgundy School of Communication (for 24 hours).
