Exclusive Video: Simon & Garfunkel Perform ‘The Boxer’ and ‘Mrs. Robinson’ in 1969
The new deluxe edition of Bridge Over Troubled Water – in stores today – comes with a bonus DVD chronicling the making of the 1969 Simon and Garfunkel LP. It also contains the rarely seen TV special Songs of America from the same year. Check out these clips of the duo performing “Homeward Bound,” “Mrs. Robinson” and “The Boxer” from the broadcast.
Simon and Garfunkel were supposed to launch an American tour last year, but it was cancelled when Art Garfunkel was diagnosed with vocal cord paresis. “My voice is coming back slowly, too slowly,” Garfunkel told Rolling Stone last November.”In my bones I feel healthy. I know it’s coming back. I just have to be patient.”
Garfunkel said he hopes to resume his the tour after his voice recovers, but he may have to allow for Simson’s schedule to open up. Last week the singer announced a spring theater tour in support of his new solo LP So Beautiful Or So What. Earlier this year Simon did tell Rolling Stone that Simon and Garfunkel may return one day. “I’d like to sing with Artie one more time, but that’s down the road,” Simon said. “I’m focused on this album and this band. It’s my kind of rock & roll.”
