‘Game of Thrones’ Unveils Ominous, Gripping Season 6 Trailer
Game of Thrones has released its first official Season Six trailer, which offers an understated opening that reintroduces the key players and closes with a characteristically brutal montage.
Set to a somber, acoustic rendition of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” performed by James Vincent McMorrow, the clip’s first half finds the various warring factions of Westeros taking stock of their lives: Jaime and Cersei Lannister plot their revenge, Daenerys Targaryen finds herself reunited with the Dothraki and Tyrion Lannister warns, “You’re in the great game now … and the great game is terrifying.”
As for those eagerly awaiting Game of Thrones‘ bloodlust and rampant rampages, the final 40-seconds helps the trailer earn its “red band” designation. The quick-hits include slicing and dicing, a requisite steamy sex scene, soldiers firing a barrage of arrows and a sudden, but thrilling appearance of a White Walker behind Bran Stark.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO with the first of 10 new episodes on April 24th. The returning cast includes Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Alfie Allen, Diana Rigg, Natalie Dormer, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, John Bradley, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Conleth Hill, Jonathan Pryce and Gwendoline Christie.
