Lana Del Rey Pokes Fun at New York Hipsters in ‘Brooklyn Baby’

The song opens with a breathy vocals and a melody reminiscent of 1960s girl-group hits before moving into Del Rey’s typically languid, dreamy soundscape. “Well my boyfriend’s in a band/ he plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed/ I’ve got feathers in my hair, I get high on hydroponic weed,” Del Rey sings in the chorus.
“Brooklyn Baby” is the fourth track on Del Rey’s second album, Ultraviolence, which is due out June 17th on Interscope. The song’s appearance follows closely on the heels of the album’s title track, which the singer dropped on June 4th, and earlier releases “West Coast” and “Shades of Cool.”
Del Rey recored some of the album’s songs with help from Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach, who talked about his work with the singer in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “She’s a true eccentric, and, you know, extremely talented,” he said. “She has a definite vision of what she is and what she wants to be, musically and visually, which is cool. [Drummer Patrick Carney] and I have always just been, like, ‘You can take our photo, I guess,’ but she just like looks at this whole thing as this big art project that she gets to do, which is great.”
