Screech Decks a ‘Saved by the Bell’ Fan in New Biopic Trailer
The hormones hit the wall in the latest trailer for Lifetime’s upcoming TV movie, The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story, which packs in all sorts of unbridled teen angst that manifests in steamy behind-the-scenes make out sessions, and one awkward brawl involving Screech.
One day after Rolling Stone premiered a more innocent clip, this one features the movie version of Dustin Diamond (Sam Kindseth) delivering the knockout blow to a kid before bellowing, “I am not Screech!” as someone holds him back. It’s a climactic moment to the 40-second clip, which is set to Bell Biv Devoe’s classic, “Poison,” and features the young cast getting lectured by parents and studio executives while they partake in classic teen activities like riding motorcycles, indiscriminate kissing and being irrationally mean to each other. “Well the network didn’t kill us,” one executive aptly says at the end of the trailer. “But the hormones might.”
The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story will air September 1st at 9 p.m. While plenty of behind-the-scenes troublemaking was documented in Diamond’s 2009 memoir, Behind the Bell, Buzzfeed reported that the new movie was based on information obtained during new interviews.
During a recent interview with HuffPost Live the real Gosselaar said he had nothing to do with the new movie, and also called out Diamond’s book saying, “It is negative. That I must say. Everything I’ve heard about his book is it is negative. I don’t remember those things. My experience on the show was very positive.” Breckin Meyer, Gosselaar’s co-star on Franklin & Bash, took things a step further, saying that Diamond is “such a dick.”
While Diamond is serving as an executive producer on the Lifetime movie, he has disowned Behind the Bell on numerous occasions, saying that his stories were misconstrued by a ghostwriter. In an interview with the Daily Beast, Diamond said that the movie would not dwell on the salacious details that surrounded the show and its young cast members. “No, it’s definitely going to be in a positive light,” he said. “It’s not out to trash anybody or put anybody down or make anybody look in a negative way. That was never the intent, so it’s definitely not the way it’s going to end up.”
