Watch Jimmy Fallon, Paul Rudd Recreate Absurd Styx Music Video
Iconic music videos have provided The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a comedic goldmine as the host has previously reimagined Lionel Richie’s “Hello” and painstakingly recreated Extreme’s “More Than Words.” On Friday’s episode, after Fallon and guest Paul Rudd casually mentioned they were in Styx together, the duo teamed up for a shot-for-shot remake of Styx‘s 1981 music video for “Too Much Time on My Hands.”
Thanks to a pair of not-so-convincing wigs, Fallon plays overenthusiastic keyboardist Dennis DeYoung on the recreation while Rudd jumps into Tommy Shaw’s turquoise jumpsuit for the video. Sadly, Fallon and Rudd only remade half of the original “Too Much Time on My Hands” video, depriving viewers additional scenes of bar room buffoonery and early Eighties video effects.
Fallon had been teasing the music video recreation throughout the week, Entertainment Weekly reports, as the host kept randomly singing the track during The Tonight Show with various guests including Adam Levine. “It’s stuck in my head. I can’t get it out of my head,” Fallon said Thursday. “Right now it’s the best song I’ve ever heard in my entire life.”
