Hear Josh Homme’s Electro Remix of Mark Lanegan’s ‘Sad Lover’
When it arrived last month on the Mark Lanegan Band’s No Bells on Sunday EP, “Sad Lover” had a strong beat and some chest-grabbing distortion. Thanks to a remix by Queens of the Stone Age leader Josh Homme, however, it now has more of both, building up into a synth-driven industrial dance workout: “Josh Homme channeled the ghost of Eighties New Wave for this mix,” Lanegan tells Rolling Stone.
No Bells on Sunday was released on July 29th through Flooded Soil/Vagrant Records, with 1,500 copies pressed vinyl and available online. Lanegan’s last full-length, Imitations, was released in 2013, and in 2012, Rolling Stone described the previous one as sounding like “Leonard Cohen, Andrew Eldritch, and countless other gothy dudes with a taste for dysfunctional relationships.”
