The duo’s Phil Everly died in January from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 74. In a statement, older brother Don said he wishes “Phil were here to share this honor.” He also expressed his thanks to the Hall of Fame and the duo’s fans worldwide “for keeping the Everly Brothers alive.”
Singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell will serve as musical director for the concert, which will take place during the Hall’s 19th annual Music Masters series. Performers for the event will be revealed at a later date.
The Everlys, whose pop-country crossover hits included “Wake Up Little Susie,” “Bye Bye Love” and “All I Have to Do Is Dream,” were among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s inaugural list of performers elected in 1986. In 2001, they were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
