See Aerosmith Take the Ice Bucket Challenge Together
“We’re jumping in with both feet,” Steven Tyler proclaimed at the end of Aerosmith‘s gig in Houston Monday night, mentally prepping himself for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. After being nominated by Mötley Crüe a few nights earlier, all of Aerosmith agreed to meet their frigid fates and, as guitarist Joe Perry noted, donate a part of the proceeds from every ticket sold to that night’s gig to the ALS Association.
Tyler also named five new nominees for the Ice Bucket Challenge including the road crews for Aerosmith and Slash (who has been the band’s opener this trek), Fleetwood Mac, Quentin Tarantino, Cheap Trick and his holiness, the Dalai Lama.
Aerosmith are the latest in a slew of celebrities to participate in the Ice Bucket challenge, which was created to raise funds and awareness for the neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease), and has helped bring in $42 million for the cause, according to NBC. A number of musicians have gotten in on the fun, including Alice Cooper, Kiss, Arcade Fire, Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood and Garth Brooks. Former President George W. Bush even partook, getting doused by his wife, Laura, in a sneak attack.
Recently, Rihanna and Eminem tag-teamed the Ice Bucket Challenge in Detroit during the final show of their joint Monster Tour, while Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters created one of the more memorable Ice Bucket videos by paying tribute to the prom disaster scene from the 1976 horror classic Carrie (Grohl — always the team player — even dressed in full prom queen regalia).
