The Cadillac Three Debut Video, Talk New Album
After premiering an exclusive on-the-set video on Rolling Stone Country earlier this week, the Cadillac Three have released the official video for new single “Party Like You.” The clip features band members Jaren Johnston, Kelby Ray and Neil Mason performing the high-octane song while bemusedly watching a wannabe player steal a car and hit on the ladies.
“He’s the guy that comes and does too much partying and tries to take the girls — but we end up with the girls,” teases Johnston, who says he wrote “Party Like You” with the notion of the “dream girl” in mind. “Every guy when they go out, whether they’re a douchebag or a normal good guy, they want to meet that girl. They think they’re going to meet that girl — and you never do. And it definitely ain’t going to happen for the dude in that video.”
Johnston, who came of age at the tail end of the MTV video era, is aware of the power the medium still wields, even if many viewers watch videos online.
“I think it’s a very important part of what we do,” he says. “It’s kind of a historic thing. I remember growing up watching CMT. I saw Garth Brooks on there and was like, ‘Holy shit, this is awesome!'”
While Brooks may be an influence on Johnston, the Cadillac Three, with its sludgy country sound, leans more grunge than Garth. The trio is currently finishing up work on their forthcoming album, produced by Dann Huff and Justin Niebank.
“We’re trying to cut four more songs. We just haven’t been home enough to do it. I think we’re going to cut those in September, so I would imagine the first of the year is when [the album] will come out,” says Johnston. “It’s pretty strong and sounds good. We’re really excited where it’s at so far.”
