Young Jeezy Arrested on Gun Charge After Wiz Khalifa Concert Shooting
Young Jeezy, real name Jay Jenkins, was one of six people arrested on Sunday for possession of an assault riffle after a deadly shooting at a Wiz Khalifa concert in Irvine, California, CNN reports.
Mountain View Police Department found the weapon on Jeezy’s tour bus after a search warrant had been issued in connection to the case. Pitchfork reports that members of the rapper’s entourage were also arrested for gun possession. Jeezy, who was on tour with Khalifa, is currently being held at the Orange County Police Department and his bail is set at $1 million.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. following the show: An unidentified 38-year old man was shot multiple times backstage at the Shoreline Amphitheater, and was then rushed to a local hospital where he died on Saturday morning.
Police, however, are still investigating the homicide itself, and have yet to make any arrests. As for the six brought in on the related gun possession charges, Lt. Saul Jaeger reported that they have all been “cooperative.”
Witnesses said the shooter used a black handgun with a large clip, and, as Mountain View Police spokesman Shino Tanaka told local news station KTVU, a big component of the investigation will be trying to figure out how the shooter managed to sneak a weapon into the venue. “We don’t know that,” Tanaka said. “This is an ongoing investigation. We will definitely try to determine how the individual was able to bring a firearm into Shoreline.”
