Motley Crue Hoping for ‘Triple R’ Rating for ‘The Dirt’ Biopic
The members of Mötley Crüe recently sat through a reading of the script for The Dirt – the forthcoming biopic based on the group’s uncountable NSFW exploits – and it shocked even them. “I was just like, ‘What the fuck? That’s insane,'” Tommy Lee told Billboard about the experience. “This movie is insane.’ Even just the way the movie starts, you’re like, ‘How the hell are we gonna rate this thing? Triple R?'”

As for the experience of seeing actors reenact the highlights and lowlights of his past 30 years for a little over two hours, Lee said it was “probably the most fucking insanely surrealistic experience I’ve ever sat through.” But he still walked away thinking the unknown actors cast to don the group’s mascara and 10-inch heels could benefit from basic training, so the group intends to take them on Crüe’s upcoming final tour. “I can just imagine some 25-year-old actor getting the part and being sent on the road to hang out and study us,” Lee said. ” They’re gonna definitely come back a different animal.”
In anticipation of their final tour – for which the four members signed a “cessation of touring” agreement that legally prevents them from reuniting for concerts – the band has recorded what could be its final tune: “All Bad Things Must End.” The group hopes to release it before the tour begins in July. “We’re just mixing [the song] and getting it together,” Lee told Billboard. “It’s pretty heavy, but it’s really melodic. It’s definitely about this time right now with the band and what the feeling is and kind of all that wrapped into a song.” Still, he reiterated that though their contract prevents them from touring together again, it cannot stop them from recording again. “Maybe there’s some more music for us down there,” he said.
Finally, Lee discussed the experience of recording drums for all nine tracks of the upcoming Smashing Pumpkins album, Monuments to an Elegy, an album that group’s frontman, Billy Corgan, described as “supersonic Pumpkins.” “I think he has probably the best record he’s ever written,” the Crüe drummer said. “These are like epic, goose-bump songs. It sounds like the first couple of Smashing Pumpkins records. I was fucking blown away.”
